Neelkanth Peak Expedition

Neelkanth Peak Expedition

A major peak of the Garhwal Himalaya, Mt. Neelkanth stands at 6507m. It is a pyramidical-shaped peak that is popularly known as the 'Garhwal Queen'. This snow-clad mountain peak rising just above the Badrinath Temple is indeed one of the most stunning summits in the Garhwal Himalaya. The Satopanth Glacier is on the northwest side of Neelkanth, the Panpatia Glacier remains on the southwest side and feeds Khirao Ganga, a small that runs under the south side of the peak. A handful of successful ascents have been reported on Mt. Neelkanth, the first climb from its western ridge was attempted in 1993 by two British Climbers. The expedition is a D+/TD- and requires Scottish grade II and III mixed climbing. Finally, after attempting the Alpine-style climb from the base camp, situated 6kms from Charan Paduka, one can successfully accomplish summit bid.
